The chocolate self-saucing pudding is an Australian favourite in many households. While the origin is unclear, what is clear that it’s a deliciously warming dessert on a cold night!

1 cup self-raising flour

1/2 tsp salt

2 tbs cocoa

3/4 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup milk

2 tbs butter melted

2 drops vanilla essence

1 3/4 cup boiling water

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 tbs cocoa

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Sift the flour, salt and cocoa into an ovenproof dish. Add in the sugar.
  3. Stir in the milk together with melted butter and vanilla essence.
  4. Mix all the sauce ingredients in a separate bowl and then pour gently over the main pudding mix.
  5. Bake in the oven for approximately 60 minutes.
  6. Serve your chocolate pudding self-saucing with a dollop of double cream or a scoop of ice cream.
