Hunger is a hidden crisis in Australia, with over 3.6 million people experiencing food insecurity at some point every year, 27% of which are children.
Foodbank is the largest hunger relief organisation in Australia, providing food for 172,000 meals a day to more than 2,600 charities nationally.
Seasons Chief Executive Officer Nick Loudon says he’s proud of the company’s long-term support of Foodbank and looks forward to raising even more awareness and tonnes of food this year.
“Last year across our eight aged care communities we collected 45.5 tonnes of food through our food drive and monetary donations. This was just short of our 50-tonne goal,” says Mr Loudon.
“This year, we’ve decided to raise our sights even higher and by including our care partner Envigor and their network of business partners we are aiming for a 100-tonne target in food or equivalent funds.
“Within our communities, we’ll be holding morning tea events for residents with guest speakers from Foodbank.
“We’re also reaching out to local residents and businesses from around our Seasons communities to join in our food drive by dropping off donations at our communities.”
While each Seasons community has the common goal of together raising 100 tonnes for Foodbank, as in previous years there will be some friendly rivalry as each community vies for the Seasons Foodbank Champions of the Year honour.
Last year, Seasons Waterford West collected 13.6 tonnes to take out the title, beating its closest competitor Seasons Corporate Office with a total of 12.37 tonnes.
Your local Seasons community has a Foodbank collection point where you can drop off items. For food staple donation ideas, view our Foodbank Calendar. We are also welcoming cash donations – no matter how big or small – to help us reach our 100-tonne target.
