A resident at Seasons Caloundra for the past 4 ½ years, Marjorie is now the community’s third centenarian – joining 102-year-old Ailsa and fellow 100-year-old Faye.
Marjorie’s son John described his mother as a strong woman who enjoyed a successful career.
“She’s an amazing woman – very talented. Her occupation originally was a nurse. She did a lot of nursing in the post-war years and she went on to become a Tutor Sister at the Mater Hospital where she trained other nurses,” says John.
Marjorie was not only a trailblazer when it came to her career. Decades before home renovation became popular due to programs like The Block, Marjorie was a home DIY enthusiast.
“She always had a passion for building. It didn’t matter where she was living, she would always find some sort of renovation that needed to be done to the house and rather than get builders in, she’d do it herself.
“I remember lots of instances of Mum digging holes, sinking posts, carrying beams around and building patios or whatever.”
Ever the keen renovator, Marjorie continued doing major home projects right into her 80s.
“She refloored the house she was living in, just for her 80th birthday!”
Marjorie has now packed away her tools and, after a life of caring and building, can relax knowing that these things are now taken care of for her in her aged care community home.
