Eunice says her time at Seasons has been ‘an experience’. She was already a resident when Seasons bought out the existing retirement village on Anzac Avenue at Kallangur.
Many years ago, Eunice actually worked as a cook in aged care.
“When the children were all at school and grown, I decided I needed to get out and mix with other people, so I rang up there (the aged care facility) and went in for an interview and she said when she had a vacancy she’d give me a call,” says Eunice.
“One morning I got a call at 5.30am and she said ‘we don’t have a cook this morning’ and I said ‘I’ve never cooked for so many people’ and she replied ‘you’ll soon learn’! I then stayed there for 35 years!
“It’s so different here. I moved in and I’ve been happy ever since. This is my eleventh year I’ve been here.”
While being a part of the community for such a long time has had its difficult moments, Eunice chooses to look on the bright side and enjoy what the community has to offer.
“Sadly, I had to have my dog Gypsy put down last year – she was 19. I’ve also had lots of friends pass on in that time which has been very hard. You have to keep going, otherwise, you destroy your own life.
“The whole staff have been great – very caring. I’ve never regretted a day since I’ve moved into Seasons.
“I have a nice unit and I’ve been happy with it. You don’t have to walk upstairs. When you open your door, you’re in your front yard.”
Eunice says she keeps active by looking after her apartment and getting involved in the social events.
“I do all my housework and a bit of gardening and that takes up time. I normally go out on the bus twice a week. It’s great to get out and about. I go to most things that are on. We’re like one big family here. Everybody’s friendly.”
