Catching up with Ron in the picturesque gardens of Mango Hill, he is working alongside resident Dudley who joins him in doing garden work most days.
Ron says that empowering Dudley, an ex-farmer, to take on some of the gardening work is a win-win situation.
“It’s all about the residents. It’s about keeping them happy,” says Ron.
Celebrating 10 years with the company this year, Ron started working at Seasons Kallangur before moving across to Mango Hill when the community opened its doors in 2010.
While his job spans maintenance of the gardens, community areas and into the residents’ apartments, Ron makes it a part of his job to know all the residents and help them out any way he can.
“When a resident first moves in, I let them settle in and usually after the first two weeks I make myself known. I tell them who I am and that I’m here to help, find out if there’s anything I can help with and it just helps to put them at ease,” says Ron.
“I enjoy doing that and it also allows me to get to know the family and it makes the family feel better that there’s someone here that cares. It’s not just the maintenance, but also connecting with the residents and I love that part of it.
“You’ve got to tick a lot of boxes and you’ve got to keep the ball rolling and just generally keep people happy – the staff, the residents, the kitchen, it’s quite constant.”
When asked what he likes most about working for Seasons, Ron says that he’s motivated by working as part of a team to provide the best for residents.
“I like the atmosphere, the surroundings, the people, the interactions with the residents, the fact that I’m busy constantly; time goes quickly. I always get self-satisfaction – I can go home knowing that I’ve made a lot of people happier.”
