“I like the feeling that I’m very safe. There are people around all the time and at night they’ve got security cameras. It’s a good feeling. I’ve made good friends here and we all meet for happy hour. I’d been very sick and the doctor didn’t want me to live on my own anymore. My son lives here at Mooloolaba, so he thought it would be good if I could come up here to the Sunshine Coast. He looked around at quite a lot of places and he found that this was the best one. Everything is looked after and ....

“I liked the idea that Mum could be independent and have her own apartment because she’d come from her own home. But I knew as she got older that she would need care so I was looking for somewhere that she could have ongoing care. Envigor provides her care and they’ve been very good. I just liked the idea of Seasons, that it was a smallish place and everybody knows each other so I was looking for that. It’s worked out well.”

“It’s a friendly place. You can join in as much as you like without being forced or if you don’t want to go, you can please yourself. I like that. You’ve always got company and if you have anything medically wrong with you there’s always medical attention – you’re not out on your own.”

“What I love most about Seasons is the friendly people. I have plenty of friends, we’re all around the same age and have the same interests. I have been coming to Caloundra for holidays since I was a baby and I moved here from Toowoomba to be close to my family. I didn’t want to live with them but handy … so I’m here – it’s better for me – and they come and get me on weekends and that sort of thing. It’s all worked out!”

“I made my own decision to come here. I couldn’t handle the up keep at home anymore. I have a lot of friends. I can get help when I need it and I can help others as well. I still have my independence and my little car and I just turned 87.”

“I feel independent – it’s like a little holiday by the seaside. I like it here. I have a good little unit and I like the security and the company the community provides. Everything comes to me. I can come and go as I like. I tell my family I am so glad I came here.”

“I was the Secretary of my local Garden Club for many years and here at Seasons I am able to have my own garden. I love my gardening, so it’s nice to have a place to that.”

“It’s got everything I want, it’s a nice unit and the place seems friendly so I thought, why not? I just decided to move. I wasn’t ready to go but I did, and I’m not sorry! The meals are pretty good and the people are friendly. People say when you come to these places ‘What do you do? Sit in your room all day?’ I say ‘No, you can if you want to but you don’t have to, there’s plenty to do. Especially for someone living alone. You’re much better off in an environment like this than sitting at home ....
